About This Exam

The exam consists of two papers, both taken on the same day:

  • Paper 1 (Non-Calculator) – 30 minutes. Tests mental arithmetic and number skills without a calculator.
  • Paper 2 (Calculator) – 1 hour 30 minutes. Covers a wider range of topics, including fractions, percentages, ratio, algebra, geometry, and statistics. A calculator is provided.

The exam is taken online via a secure browser. You will receive full instructions and access details after we confirm your booking with the exam board, Highfield.

Functional Skills Level 2 English Exam

The Functional Skills Level 2 English exam is awarded by Highfield and is equivalent to a GCSE grade C/4. The qualification has three components: Reading, Writing, and Speaking, Listening and Communicating.

About This Exam

  • Reading – 1 hour. You will read a range of texts and answer questions that test your understanding, analysis, and ability to compare information from different sources.
  • Writing – 1 hour. You will complete two writing tasks that test your ability to write clearly and accurately for different purposes and audiences. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar are assessed.
  • Speaking, Listening and Communicating – This component is arranged separately with you after you book. It is a short discussion and presentation-based assessment.

The reading and writing exams are both taken online on the same day. The Speaking, Listening and Communicating assessment will be arranged with you separately after your booking is confirmed.
